'Enfys'
is run by the West Glamorgan Rainbow Boat Trust and takes disabled
people for trips on the Neath Canal at Resolven. On 30th. June, SCBT
hired the boat to hold a management committee - and to see at first
hand how the Rainbow Boat is operated.
Marion Leach from the Rainbow Trust welcomed us and explained how
the project had developed. She also offered some sound advice based
on her practical experience of running the Rainbow Boat project, which
was very useful. We then had a trip on ‘Enfys’ in the
company of boatmen Richard and Teg.
The
West Glamorgan Rainbow Trust has over 17 years experience of successfully
running a trip boat for the disabled, so we found it a very worthwhile
experience.
The Swansea Community Boat Trust was set up to run a community boat
in Swansea, for the benefit of a wide range of community groups, including
disabled people. The Trust has now applied to a number of bodies for
funding to purchase a boat and to employ staff to run it. We’ll
keep you posted. Fingers crossed !
